How it works

From your first test to a plan

  1. Diagnostic

A short free test (about 35 minutes for IELTS, 70 for the SAT) shows where you are in each skill.

  2. Practice test

Sit a full paper on screen with the real timings, question types and layout.

  3. Instant estimated score

See your raw score and estimated band or score the moment you submit, with an explanation for every question.

  4. Study plan

Your plan shows which skills and question types cost you marks and what to take next, week by week.

What you get

Everything you need between now and test day

Computer-delivered format

The screens you will see on test day

All four exams are taken on a computer. Practising on the same kind of screen makes the layout, the clock and the tools familiar before it counts.

  • IELTS Reading in a split screen: the text on the left, the questions on the right, a question navigator at the bottom
  • IELTS Listening audio plays once, like the real test, with an optional practice mode
  • Digital SAT modules with a built-in graphing calculator, a reference sheet and Mark for Review
SageTutor Digital SAT Math module: a question with four answer choices on the left and the graphing calculator plotting a parabola on the right.
Digital SAT Math, Practice Test 1, with the graphing calculator open.

AI Writing feedback

See how to improve your IELTS essay

Write Task 1 and Task 2 on screen with a live word count, then ask for AI feedback on each task to see what to improve.

  • An estimated band for each of the four Writing criteria and for the task
  • Your essay with the problems highlighted: task, coherence, vocabulary, grammar, spelling and punctuation
  • Try it with the 10 free AI credits every new account gets
  • Two model answers (about band 6.0 and 7.5) with examiner-style comments for every task
SageTutor IELTS Academic Writing Task 2 screen: the essay question on the left, a typed answer on the right and a live word count.
IELTS Writing Task 2. AI feedback is requested after you finish and uses AI credits. It is a study aid for you only, not an official score.

Explanations in your language

Understand every mistake

Every IELTS Listening and Reading answer comes with the reason and the evidence highlighted in the text or transcript. You can read the explanations in 7 languages (English, Thai, Hindi, Urdu, Vietnamese, Persian, Chinese); the questions and texts stay in English, as in the exam.

  • Switch the explanation language on the results page at any time
  • Digital SAT: a worked explanation of the correct answer and of why each wrong choice is wrong (in English)
  • Links to short lessons for the question types you missed
SageTutor IELTS Reading results: the passage with evidence highlighted on the left and question explanations in Vietnamese on the right.

Instant estimated score

Your band the moment you submit

No waiting and no marking by hand. You see your raw score, your estimated band or score and how you did in each part.

  • IELTS: raw score out of 40, estimated band and the score in each passage or part
  • Digital SAT: an estimated 200-800 score per section and a 400-1600 total, with accuracy by skill
  • Show only the questions you got wrong and review them one by one
SageTutor IELTS Academic Reading result: 31 out of 40, estimated band 7.0, with the score per passage and lessons for the question types missed.

Study plan

Know what to practise next

Set your target band and exam date. Your plan compares each skill with the target and suggests which unseen papers to take each week.

  • Where you are in each skill, and the gap to your target
  • The question types that cost you the most marks, with a lesson for each
  • Saved in your browser, or on every device when you sign in
SageTutor IELTS study plan: target band 7.5, an exam date, and a progress bar for each of the four skills.

Why practise here

Books and PDFs are useful. The exam is on a screen.

  • Real timing

The clock runs as it does in the exam and Listening audio plays once. With a book you time yourself and can pause the recording.

  • Instant score

Submit and see your estimated band or score straight away, instead of marking each answer against a key.

  • The same on-screen format

Scrolling a long passage, typing answers and moving between questions on screen take practice. Paper does not give you that.

  • Explanations, not just answers

Every question tells you why the answer is right and where the evidence is, and your plan points you to the lesson you need.

Honest scoring

How we estimate your score

Every SageTutor score is an estimate: only an official test gives you an official result. This is how we get close.

IELTS Listening and Reading

We count your correct answers out of 40 and convert them to a band with tables that follow the published IELTS conversion tables. Academic and General Training Reading use different tables. Real cut-offs vary slightly between test versions.

IELTS Writing

AI feedback rates each task on the four official criteria. Task 2 counts twice as much as Task 1 and the result is rounded to a half band, as in the exam. It is an AI estimate for your own practice, not an examiner's mark, and it is never used to make decisions about you.

Digital SAT

Section scores (200-800) come from SageTutor's own provisional scoring model, not from College Board. On a real test your section scores may differ by about 50-100 points.

Frequently asked questions

Is SageTutor free?

You can start free. The IELTS and SAT diagnostics, and Practice Test 1 of every exam, work without an account. A free account adds Practice Tests 2-3, 10 AI credits to try AI feedback and your progress on every device. The paid plans open every test and lesson and add AI credits every month. See Pricing.

Is this an official IELTS or SAT test?

No. SageTutor is an independent practice service, not affiliated with or endorsed by the IELTS partners (British Council, IDP: IELTS Australia and Cambridge University Press & Assessment) or by College Board. All our test material is original.

How accurate are the scores?

They are estimates. IELTS Listening and Reading use the published conversion tables; Writing feedback uses the four official criteria. SAT scores come from our own provisional model and may differ from a real score by about 50-100 points per section. Details: How scoring works.

Where are my results stored?

Without an account, only in this browser. When you sign in, your results are saved to your account and those already in the browser are copied across. See our Privacy Policy.

Should I choose IELTS Academic or General Training?

Academic is usually for university study or professional registration; General Training is usually for work, training or migration. Check with the organisation you are applying to. Listening and Speaking are the same for both.

Can I use my phone?

Yes, everything works on a phone. The real computer-delivered exams are taken on a desktop screen with a keyboard, though, so for full timed tests a computer gives you the most realistic practice.
